Formal Pictures

My Grandmother keeps telling me to "dress feminine." I'm not really sure what that means. I guess because I'm always in jeans and t-shirts but honestly, who wants to wear formal clothes out in the field? She cracks me up...it is too funny!!

These pictures were taken on formal night on the cruise. There are two on the boat and these were taken on the second night before dinner. I thought the dress was really pretty and luckily the column hid my huge hips!!

Dinner that night was fantastic and I must say that I had the best tablemates all week long (well, except for one who was a bit wild - and I'm not sure in a good way), but I really enjoyed the whole week. Sharon and Connie kind of "adopted" me and let me hang out with them at the shows and also on one of the excursions into Costa Maya. Now that I'm typing this I realize I didn't get a picture of the 3 of us! We also had Evan who is a dentist in Ohio, Terri who is a world-traveling nanny/travel agent/tons of other stuff, we also had Annette and Toni who are best friends from New York and lastly another guy whose name escapes me at the moment. He only ate with us 2 nights I think.

The food was great...the company was even better!!

Beautiful picture of Roatan, Honduras

Just a beautiful picture of the port of Roatan. This is the area that I went ziplining in. Very poverty stricken, but beautiful. This was taken from the cruise ship in port. The water was a beautiful blue/green. It doesn't look as clear as it should because it was an overcast day. In fact, I think I mentioned that I went ziplining in the rain...that's how I got the mud all over me!!

Lifeboat Drill

Here's a picture of me with my appletini on the cruise. This is during the lifeboat drill. I was having a great time, laughing with other folks in my lifeboat, especially these two older ladies who were sisters. They said they loved my attitude and they were laughing so hard they almost pee'd their pants. I thought that was too funny.

What 'cha think...is dayglo-orange my color?

Five for Five BABY!!

It's official....I applied to five PhD programs...I got in to all five PhD programs. YAY ME!! Now my job will be to decide which one I should take. Four of the offers are good, one is crappy. I'll be traveling for the next couple of weeks trying to decide which program to attend. Although I think I have made a choice, you just never know what will happen.

Here's a picture of me onboard the Valor as we're heading out of port from Miami...I'm looking to book another cruise for myself for next summer to Alaska. I really want to see the glaciers and also do the train ride back across Canada.

After the Ziplines

So this is me after the ziplines. My shirt was filthy from the rain/mud being sent backwards off the pully. Notice the big "Ash Wednesday" blotch in the middle of my forehead....I laugh every time I see this picture because I was totally covered in mud!!

I would do it again in a heartbeat!! It was one of the most amazing things I have ever done.

More tomorrow....

Back from my cruise

So...vacation....AMAZING!! Left here on Sunday morning at 6:00am, no issues with my flight and was onboard the Carnival Valor by 12:15 and eating fish & chips in Rosie's Diner. Got into my room at 1:30...wonderful SINGLE room...got my undies, etc. put away by 2:00 and I was outta there and back on deck.

Leaving Miami was great fun. There is something magical about going on a cruise. Pulling away from the dock just fills me with excitement and possibility. Went to the lifeboat drill with an appletini in my hand...I was like Molly Brown from Titanic...

Next day at sea was a lazy day and not great weather. I went to tea and just kind of putzed around the ship. Went to the show at night...slept like a baby afterwards.

Grand Cayman - water was too rough and couldn't get in port but it sure looked pretty from afar. Did NOT get to swim with the stingrays...the whole REASON I booked this cruise...ugh.

Honduras - ziplined and screamed like a mad woman!! One of the best/most fun/crazy things I've ever done. The adrenaline rush was unbelievable!! Spent a few $$ in town, but not many, as I was saving my money for something else later.

Belize - did cave-tubing through 2 caves. Had to walk through the rain forest for a mile to get to the head of the river...it was AMAZING!! Flopped into the water, into my tube and away I went. Used my little headlamp to look at the cave walls...noticed the rocks...I am such a geek. BUTTS UP when we got to shallow areas so as not to run our hiney's over the rocks...saw a few bats... Went into town afterwards before tendering back out to the boat and bought myself a pair of tanzanite earrings. Tanzanite is by far my favorite gemstone...they cost me a fortune!! So worth it though...it was what I was saving for.

Costa Maya Mexico - went to the Kohunlich Mayan Ruins and climbed around as one would expect that I would. Can cross another thing off my list of things I want to do now...they were way too cool!!

Back at sea for another day before returning to Miami. Once we arrived (at 5:30am) I promptly went back to sleep as I didn't have to be downstairs until 8:30am. I went on a tour of the Everglades in Florida. Grew up there for 17 years and don't remember ever visiting the everglades...saw some big alligators...woo!

Home on Monday...back to school on Tuesday and have been running like a mad-woman since!! Keep an eye on my blog for pictures...the first, above, is me ziplining in Honduras!!
