The things I do to avoid work...

In my neverending quest to avoid working on my thesis revisions I decided to decorate the spare bathroom AKA Richard's bathroom. I used a brown on the walls that made it very rich looking - almost like suede. I added dark brown towels (that Richard is NOT allowed to use), a medium brown shower curtain, and the coolest rug. It actually has all the colors in it plus a touch of pale turquoise. LOVE IT!! And it's as soft as can be.
One of my favorite things about the room though is the artwork. These pictures of dinosaurs were done by my niece, Haley. I framed them and hung them in the bathroom. They are way too cute!! My favorite is the one on the left, the brontosaurus AKA apatosaurus.

Random Thoughts

Today was my first day at UT for the GK-12 program. It is going to be a blast!! I was assigned to a school close to the house so I'm very happy. I'll be teaching about 130 8th graders all about earth science. Pray for me...haha.

On the way to UT this morning I kept thinking about all the ORANGE around here and I thought to myself "you are just going to have to take pictures of all the wacky stuff people do around here that is ORANGE. So, here is installment #1 of THEY DO LOVE ORANGE IN KNOXVILLE.
From the ladies bathroom we have fake ORANGE tulips...

Ah, a bear dressed up in an ORANGE bumblebee outfit hanging on the side of a pillar....

A lovely ORANGE building on my way to and from school...

Trust me, as the days pass, there will be more....

I didn't get to scrapbook last night. I wasn't going to go to Denver in October to present at GSA but Tricia thought I really should. So, I had 48 hours to write an abstract about my research. Tricia edited and we've got that part done. Now it is coming up with a title. So...YAY ME!! I'm going to be in Denver for Halloween!! Has anyone has seen the latest issue of Simple Scrapbooks? I am going to make that travel log/diary that Donna Downey has in that issue. I'll call it "Where in the World do Paleontologists Go?" or something....

Mom: I had forgotten that HP was 12 in the first book. In the movie he seemed younger. Daniel will be so old when they finish filming the last HP movie though. I hope he's able to keep some youthful looks. By the way...can't WAIT for HP to come out!!

Deborah: You are so right!! No matter where I go or who I meet in the scrapbooking world there will be no group as special to me as my peeps in Wilmington. Lordy how I miss you all so much!!

Miranda: Can't WAIT to see you all at CK! As Deb would say "I need me some peep time"

Roxanne: I'm glad you like the scrapbook area. Now if I could only find time to scrapbook...haha. Wish you were going to CK in August with us. You'd love the classes.

Okay, must go work on my thesis...love you all!!!

The Creative Urge...

Yesterday I took the opportunity to finally go to my local scrapbook store. They were having a special event where samples of all of the new classes were on display. Most of the things I found to be elementary as they seem to cater to the new scrapbooker. One artist really stood out though. Her name is Lynn Justice and she taught this chipboard purse last month...

This next month she will be teaching a book that fits inside this purse box. It was really beautiful. In addition, Lynn was there and I got to talk to her - such a pleasant person! I signed up for the book class and Lynn was kind enough to agree to bring me a class kit for the purse when I'm there for the class. I can't wait to work on this project!! The class is the day after my birthday so it will be a nice gift for myself.

To all my scrapbooking peeps out there - where do you buy heavy duty chipboard? This stuff that she used actually clicked when you tapped the pages together - it's really hard! It's much thicker and heavier than regular chipboard.

It was nice to be back in a scrapbook store. This particular store is quite well stocked but I also have many great opportunities in the area to buy supplies. There are 2 Hobby Lobby's, a Michaels, and an AC Moore. Also, let's not forget that a mere 30 miles away I have the two HUGE stores in Sevierville. I don't think I've ever seen as much stuff as there.

I also bought a new issue of Simple Scrapbooks yesterday and read it cover-to-cover last night. Needless to say, my creative juices are flowing and I am dying to get to creating again. I really need to find a crop group to hang out with. I think I may sign up for a crop at the scrapbook store just to be able to talk to people and get a feel for the scrapbook vibe in this area.

After all, all school and no scrapbooking makes René very irritable....

Harry Potter...

As most of you know, I am a fan of Harry Potter. The new book is coming out on the 21st and I have my copy reserved. I was looking at the Daniel Radcliff interview on the Today Show earlier today. He was asked about the final book:

TODAYshow.com: With the final book coming out, do you ever get a sense of impending doom? Do you think you will survive "The Deathly Hallows"?

Daniel: I think I might die in it, but that’s just my prediction. I think so, but I’ve no idea at all; I have no inside hints.

Personally, I don't think HP is going to die, or die alone. I picture it as HP and Voldemort with both wands raised, magic shooting out of both, one falls to the ground, but we don't know which one.

Another thing that I don't like about the movies. Daniel has grown so much during the years they've been filming. Why couldn't they have filmed back to back like LOTR did? Instead, I think Daniel looks far too old to be HP in his 5th year of school for this movie...and he's no longer got his cuteness.

July 4th

Hope everyone had a safe July 4th. I love my new neighborhood...folks on all sides of my house were lighting off fireworks...it was CRAZY! I just sat out on the front porch and watched. Didn't this picture come out kind of cool? It almost looks like a wonky sea urchin.

CONGRATULATIONS!!

Congratulations go out to my son, William, as he has passed his EMT National Registry exam!! What is especially impressive is that he did it on his first time out. More than 60% of those who take this exam fail it on the first try. He was also tops in his classes in the college and passed all of those exams with flying colors. Now he has the opportunity to work with a fire department as an EMT. After 6 months of on-the-job training he will be eligible to take the paramedics class.

William - I am so very, VERY proud of you!!
Congratulations!!!!!
LOVE YOU!!!!!!!!!

Outside

Everyone who is in love with the new song that Coleman is using for their commercials please raise their hand...
Yes, I am totally addicted to this song. I think it is FAB-U-LOUS!! It's done by a group out of San Diego called "The Stereotypes". Here is the url for their webpage:

And...here is a link from their website for the song:

And, last but not least, so you can sing along, here are the lyrics:

outside

it's too hot in here, let's go outside
get a breath of fresh air, let's go outside
where i can kiss you on the lips
underneath the night-time sky
let's go outside

and i told you so

you may be surprised, but i know this is right
i'm recovering tonight, with you at my side
where i can hold you 'round the waist
underneath the night-time sky
and i told you so

cause, baby i know

Happy Birthday Diana

Probably the most recognizable face in the world, today would have been Princess Diana's 46th birthday. She left this world far too early. Tonight there is a concert from Wembley Stadium in London. Her sons, William and Harry, are hosting this in her honor. She was beautiful and proper, but she also had a fun side.

Happy birthday Diana.
