Heading Out...

This is me, doing the happy happy dance because I'm heading out in the morning for Washington D.C. I'm going to the annual GK-12 conference and presenting a poster on how our program has been able to integrate our research into the middle school classroom. It will be great fun.

My friend Jorene and I are heading up a day early so that we can go to some of the museums. We're hoping to go to the Holocaust Museum, Natural History Museum, Air & Space Museum, and maybe an art museum....not all in one day, of course. We've got all day Thursday & Friday to do these.

I'm really excited about being able to go to Paper Source, what looks like an absolutely fabulous scrapbook/paper arts store. I'm going to try to keep myself under control but you know how I get when scrapbook supplies are around...haha.

I'll be taking lots of pictures, as I always do, and will share them when I get back.

It's snowing here this cold!!
Be good while I'm gone, if you can.
I am grateful for:
1. The opportunity to travel
2. The GK-12 program
3. Coffee
4. My electric blanket (yes, I know I said this the other day but it's just fabulous)
5. Warm showers on cold mornings

New Mini Book!

Everyone who knows me knows I love the scrapbooking style of Cathy Zielske. This past weekend she put a new project up on her website that is a mini-book that you create from tags. This book is supposed to be a "month in your life" kind of thing. I thought it was genius!! So, I printed 15 of the March templates (she has them for March, April, and May) and cut them up last night while I was watching the Academy Awards (and avoiding homework because it was Sunday). I'll start this on March 1st which should be fun because I'll be in Washington DC that weekend and will get some good pictures.

Above you'll see some of the items I'm going to use for my book. The paper is by American Crafts and there are 9 different designs. I love stripes so I'm making my cover the striped one. I also have some new rubber stamps I intend to use, black eyelets, black doodlebug buttons, misc prima flowers, Heidi Swapp ghost flowers, Scenic Route chipboard arrows, Doodlebug Simply Sweet alphabet stickers, misc. brads and May Arts ribbons.

Hope you'll play along with me. The link for the templates is here.

Also, in case you haven't seen it, Ali Edwards has a great new mini-book project on her site as well. I've downloaded the information but haven't started it. It will have to wait until after Cathy Z's.

Today I am grateful for:
1. Cathy Zielske
2. Ali Edwards
3. The kids I work with at the middle school who made me laugh today.
4. Jacob's Orange Club (a british chocolate/orange biscuit)
5. Hot cocoa

Beware...New Line Cinema Movies!

Well, Friday night movie night watching Hairspray was a bust. Let me tell you why! So I put the movie into my DVD player and the thing won't play. It's stuck on "loading." I take the movie out, clean it, put it back in, same thing! I try for about 15 minutes before I finally give up and watch The Holiday for the billionth time. So today I take it back to Blockbuster, they give me another copy, I head home and pop it into the DVD player to make sure it works...NOPE! I'm now really irritated and head BACK to Blockbuster and ask them to test another copy before I take it home. They do and it works just fine on their DVD player. So, I tootle on home and pop it into the DVD player....NOTHING! I swear to goodness I feel like a dang idiot but the thing won't play. I pop in a couple of new movies I'd bought and they play just fine but Hairspray won't play. I call Blockbuster and tell them and they ask me what type of player I have and that I can exchange this movie for another movie if I'd like. I told them I'd stop by tomorrow.

I decide to check on the internet to see if anyone else is having this issue and sure enough, folks are! Apparently New Line Cinema has put some code on the DVD that won't allow it to play on some DVD players...something about burning DVD's. Oh really smart is that, really? You're excluding a part of your audience and I don't even HAVE a DVD burner! I'll tell you what, I won't be renting another New Line Cinema DVD again!! All in all the video cost me $5.01 and 2 gallons of gas for all of this return (at $3 a gallon)...New Line Cinema has now lost my business. I know I'm one small person but I have to make a stand.

Today I am grateful for:
1. The twin-size electric blanket I bought for when I'm sitting in my living room.
2. Sleeping in a little bit
3. The Holiday (saved me last night)
4. Peeps (which I love to smell and can't wait for Lent to be over so I can eat)
5. Getting my homework done

Finally Friday!!

YAY for Friday!! It's been rainy and gloomy here. I went out today to check in with my advisor who asked me yesterday afternoon "will you be in tomorrow...we should get together to discuss your future"

*I'm now starting to feel sick*

So I went in today even though I don't normally go to UT on Friday and he said he thought I wasn't coming in. I told him he couldn't leave me with a "future" comment like that for 4 days over a weekend...we laughed...he won't do that again *or the body won't be found*...he agreed...haha...

Stopped in at my local scrapbook store...LOVE IT...and spent less than $20 (yes Rhiannon, I hear you, I know I have way too much stuff already but seriously, I NEEDED this stuff...honest!)

Afterwards I stopped at Blockbuster and picked up a movie. A friend recently told me that I spend too much time on schoolwork so I'm starting to take Friday nights for myself. I'm going to have "Dinner and a Movie." Tonight I'll be watching Hairspray (because I missed it in the theater) and making shredded pork tacos from a leftover roast.

Today I am grateful for:
1. Not having to set my alarm clock for this morning...slept until 7:30...delicous!
2. Free oil change on my new Jeep
3. A new little scallop-edged book by Maya Road that is too adorable (and I can't wait to scrapbook with it!)
4. My new workout comfy on icky days!!
5. Rhiannon emailed me to tell me our order of British chocolate is here...YAY!!!!

12 on the 12th...

Today I was reading Cathy Zielske's blog and she showed a scrapbook layout she'd done last year about "12 on the 12th" and I was intrigued by the idea. The original idea is here. Basically, on the 12th you take 12 pictures that define your day and you scrapbook them on one layout so that you remember that day.

Now, I know that today isn't the 12th but I thought it was such a cool idea that I'd try it starting next month. I'm giving you this assignment as well...consider it homework (because goodness knows I need to share the load with others). Don't you think this is a cool idea?

I hear you asking, "René, seriously, what is up with the picture today?" Well, I typed the #12 into Google to see what kinds of pictures it would pull up (I was looking for a typeface of some sort to illustrate the #12). So, on the first page this picture shows up. I have no idea what it's made of but it made me smile. So, I'm sharing it with you.

My gratitudes for today:
1. The smooth drive in to school this morning because Knox County Schools are out for illness.
2. Friends who love me
3. My tickets for Ron White came in the mail
4. That I don't have the flu like everyone else *knock on wood*
5. Smooth-writing blue pens

A little disappointed...

Spoiler alert...if you haven't watched it and are planning to but don't want the ending revealed...leave now while you still can....

Last warning...proceed at your own risk....

Was there any one else who was a little disappointed by the House show that aired last night following the Superbowl? The network had been hyping this show for at least a week and how it was going to be a blockbuster because the patient was in Antarctica and he couldn't get to her. Then, the commercial shows how the mechanic is going to drill into her head and you're thinking "oh my goodness! This is definitely a reason to watch." And it ends up being blah...the whole show is just blah...and come to find out that it's a broken toe that's done all of this and she doesn't realize her toe is broken even though it is every shade of purple and the toe nail has a huge black spot on it? Puhleeze! Love this show immensly but this episode just didn't live up to the hype.

There's a new show on this Tuesday as well...something about House's medication...I'll be tuning in for sure!

Once upon a time, a guy asked a girl "Will you marry me?" The girl said:"NO!"

And the girl lived happily ever-after and went shopping, dancing, camping, drank martinis, always had a clean house, never had to cook, did whatever the hell she wanted, never argued, didn't get fat, traveled more, had many lovers, didn't save money, and had all the hot water to herself. She went to the theatre, never watched sports, never wore friggin' lacy lingerie that went up her a**, had high self esteem, never cried or yelled, felt and looked fabulous in sweat pants and was pleasant all the time.
