Haley and Honor...

Honor got a letter from my niece, Haley, the other day. She drew a picture of Honor. I think it looks EXACTLY like Honor. It's the spitting image....what do you think? Don't you agree?? Honor was all excited and kept barking "Mom, look Mom, it's Me! Haley drew a picture of me!" Honor wrote a letter back to Haley to thank her for the picture. Gotta love dogs that can write!

Miscellaneous Thoughts

Diane sent me the sweetest email this morning. The email said you were supposed to open it in the morning and envision that you were sitting around drinking coffee and gossiping. That would be so much fun! The little sun-smiley picture was in the email and it just made me happy so I had to share. Wouldn't it be great to be able to get all of your girlfriends at one big table and just sit there together and drink coffee? I have so many wonderful girlfriends that are just scattered around the US that it would be uber-difficult....but it would be awesome to do.

On another note, Crystal sent me this joke...loved it!! Made me laugh out loud...

A man escapes from prison where he has been for 15 years. He breaks into a house to look for money and guns and finds a young couple in bed. He orders the guy out of bed and ties him to a chair. While tying the girl to the bed he gets on top of her, kisses her neck and then gets up and goes into the bathroom.

While he's in there, the husband tells his wife..."Listen, this guy is an escaped convict, look at his clothes! He's probably spent lots of time in jail and hasn't seen a woman in years. I saw how he kissed your neck. If he wants sex, don't resist, don't complain, just do whatever he tells you! This guy is probably very dangerous, if he gets angry he'll kill us. Be strong Honey, I love you!

To which the wife responded..."He wasn't kissing my neck, he was whispering in my ear. He told me he was gay, thought you were cute and asked if we had any Vaseline. I told him it was in the bathroom......Be strong Honey.....I love you too!!!!"

Crystal also sent me an email with this picture. Oh yea, how I've lived in places where I'd like to post this...remember, full disclosure is the law!

And lastly, got my grant application in for the Paleo Society. Only one more grant to go for this season...woohoo!!

Why don't businesses keep their websites updated? Especially small businesses. Let me tell you what I mean. There are two business websites that I have been watching lately. One is for travel. This website offers local tours and one of the tours is to see the King Tut and Clay Soldier exhibits that are currently in Atlanta. This website hasn't been updated since 2008. I have emailed the company and they said "the website will be updated when the new paper list of tours goes out on February 6th." today is February 20th and the site hasn't been updated NOR have the paper copies of the new tours gone out. My beef is that you know you have clients interested in going so why not update the site?? It's true, Atlanta is only about 4 hours away. Sure, I could drive it myself and go see these two exhibits, but sometimes it's nice to just kick back and let someone else do the driving...especially since I am single and am ALWAYS the driver!

Site two....I have wanted to take beading classes for a little while now. So I visit the bead store website and the January classes are listed. I email the shop owner and she tells me to call and speak to someone at the store who will read the list off to me of classes. Apparently she has been out of town and hasn't had time to update the class list. Okay, gotcha...called about February classes but none fit my schedule. Now it's the end of February and I want to find out the March schedule and STILL no update since January.

In the tough economic times that we are having, wouldn't you think that a small business would do everything in it's power to get the word out to consumers who are obviously interested in taking your classes or purchasing whatever product you might have?
I'm just sayin.....

Working on Grants

LOVE, LOVE this from PhD comics! It sums up how scattered and absentminded you become when you are working on things like grants! Your mind is going in half a billion different directions at once and even crossing the street can be dangerous...haha.

Not only am I working on grants but I am teaching for my advisor tomorrow. I want to make sure I get that lecture finished up and my notes printed out so I'm ready to go.

Nothing much to report on...Life is good!

I still miss her...

Watched a couple of videos I had of her. Haven't watched them in years. My God, but she was an amazing and beautiful woman.

Found an exact replica of the tiara she is wearing here. It's $179. I'm thinking of buying it.

I hate exercise...seriously...

But I have got to do it. I have slacked for the past three weeks! I need to get my butt in gear and get back into the gym. Maybe it's because I've set up this "must exercise 5 days a week at the gym" mentality, but I'm not sure. I'm starting back tomorrow...seriously! I think I am also going to start doing yoga at night here at the house. I love yoga and find that my hips have been hurting a bit. I think it's because I haven't been stretching out the muscles as much.

What prompted this post today is a story on about how exercise helps your life...such as:

1. Boosts your brain power (could use some of that)
2. Builds muscle strength for life.
3. Whittles your waistline.
4. Lowers stress level.
5. Lowers risk of breast cancer.
6. Sleep better (could really use that lately!)
7. Strengthens bones.
8. Staves off heart disease.
9. Lift depression.
10. Prevent diabetes.

So, back to the gym I go. Not only for those reasons but it is only about 5 1/2 months until my cruise and I would love to have an extra few pounds gone so that I can hike the glaciers comfortably.

Catching Up...

This is grant writing season in geology. With that comes writing proposal after proposal to submit to different agencies to see if they will help fund your project. This past week I've written several. The good thing is that your project doesn't really change so you can reuse some of what you've just have to figure out how to write it in a different way. But then you also have to focus on what agency you are submitting the grant for. For instance, if I am submitting to the Paleo Society I can focus on my critters. If I am focusing on SEPM (sedimentary rock guys) then I have to write about the rocks and how confusing they are. It's a dance but one that I happy participate in....especially if they give me money! I have another grant due in a little over a week but I've decided to take this weekend off. It is, after all, Valentines Day!

I am my own Valentine this year so I am going to treat myself right and do things that I enjoy. So I am scrapbooking today (I also scrapbooked last night and made the cutest little mini-book and pair of earrings for a friend). Today I am working on a mini-book filled with pictures from the Christmas photography session with the boys. My goodness...aren't they handsome young men!

While I am scrapbooking I am going to watch the last two episodes of ER that I have missed. Then I hope to watch some of the season of Grey's Anatomy...I have missed the whole season as it comes at the same time as The Office and we all know I don't miss The Office!

I am going to go out in a little while and buy myself some roses, a few things to make myself a special dinner, and quite possibly some chocolate.

Happy Valentines Day!!

Isn't it Beautiful?

I joined a Valentines Day charm swap on Two Peas and received all of the charms today. There is no way I could show you all the charms I received...almost every link in the bracelet is filled. In fact, I've had to leave 3 charms off because I have to fix some small issues. I am amazed at the talent. I am so very pleased with this bracelet!
I am hosting 4 charm swaps myself....3 are heart themed swaps and one is a flower swap. I cannot wait to see what everyone makes!

Saturday...In the Park...

Saturday was a beautiful day so Honor and I decided to go to the dog park. We stayed for about 2 hours. As beautiful as the day was, this park has got to be the wind-tunnel area of Knoxville. The wind was blowing so hard that I couldn't stand it much longer. We'll try later this afternoon.

I'm taking today off. I want to work on a mini-book based on the Christmas pictures of the boys and I and I will head out at about 1pm to see "New in Town" before I run to the grocery store for a couple of small things. I have put two turkey legs into the crockpot to make Turkey Noodle Soup for dinner and I need celery.

I also cleaned off the jalapeno seeds I've been saving for my summer garden and I have touched the right side of my nose which is burning like the dickens...I must go wash my face now...

In May I will have two large scrapbook events that I will be attending. The first is the Donna Downey Inspired Event and I am very much looking forward to that. It is a really crafty affair that is based on scrapbooking but you really step outside of the box.
The second event is Creating Keepsakes University that is being held in Nashville. I am so very excited to be a part of this as well! In fact, it is one of the items on my bucket list and after attending I will be able to cross it off. WooHoo!! I have joined one of the "dorms" which is a group of 6-10 women who get together to do things like cheers, contests, etc. I am so excited! Wish all my scrapbooking friends were going with me but totally understand that it's so far away and the cost is quite high. I promise to post/send you plenty of pictures to turn you positvely green with envy!!

What I Did Today...

I scrapbooked a two-page spread about walking in the 2008 Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure here in Knoxville.

I went to Bed, Bath and Beyond and ordered one of these so that I can work in the living room without pulling out my big card table.

Went to see Revolutionary Road...stunning movie! It's no wonder Kate Winslet won the Golden Globe and was nominated for the Academy award.

I made my first batch of tamales. I sure do hope they come out good! It only took me about 30 minutes to wrap all of them (I think I came out with about 15 or so)

Lastly, I watched Honor play in the snow. She really loves this stuff!! We are expecting another 2 inches tonight and then 2 inches tomorrow....brrrrrr

Change of Plans...

My plans this morning included heading to the spa to have my nails done and to make my car payment. However, those plans have changed. Yesterday it was 60 we have snow! I took my little camera outside and recorded Honor trying to catch the snowflakes. No sound on this video but she was barking and having a great time.

So, I've decided to stay home until the roads are cleared. I think it's the perfect time to catch up on the past two episodes of ER that I missed.

11:17am: Over 2 inches of snow now...
