The Original KFC

On the way home from Cincinnati we stopped at the original Sander's Cafe. This is where Kentucky Fried Chicken began! I saw the original pressure cooker the Colonel Sanders used to cook his chicken. Also saw part of the original kitchen and cafe area. Had a great time!! Forgot how salty KFC chicken really is, too!!

Home from Cincinnati

Stress-Ball-Bob and I had a great time at the Cincinnati Museum. We were there over the weekend working on my research. Bob didn't do much work. Instead, he insisted on looking around the collections and having his picture taken with all of the cool stuff that is hidden in the back of a Natural History Museum. I, on the other hand, slaved away on my research.

We also had the opportunity to attend one of the Cincinnati Dry Dredgers meetings. This is an interesting group of amateur fossil collectors that are real diehards. They are the same group of folks that found the slab of edrioasteroids that I am using for my Ph.D. research. I owe them a lot!! I am hoping to go back next spring and give a talk to the group about my research. Truly interesting people, and I mean that in a really good way! They were awesome!!

Life has been non-stop for me for the past couple of weeks. I loved being in Wilmington - seeing Richard and all of my amazing friends was just what I needed. But, I haven't had a moment's rest since I got home either. This week has been work work study study work work infinity. This afternoon I'm heading out to work all weekend in Cincinnati. It will be fun but then it's right back to work on Monday.

This has been a really long semester at school and I will be happy when it is over. I'm tired and I think it's beginning to show.

As Janet said, I'd love a clean white room with a white table, white pad of paper, and pencil so that I could write down all of my thoughts and clear my head. Then I'd head to the white fluffy bed and rest my tired self for a little while.

This Story Melts My Heart...

A female humpback whale had become entangled in a spider web of crab traps and lines. She was weighted down by hundreds of pounds of traps that caused her to struggle to stay afloat. She also had hundreds of yards of line rope wrapped around her body, her tail, her torso, a line tugging in her mouth. A fisherman spotted her just east of the Faralon Islands (outside the Golden Gate ) and radioed for help. Within a few hours, the rescue team arrived and determined that she was so bad off, the only way to save her was to dive in and untangle her--a very dangerous proposition. One slap of the tail could kill a rescuer. They worked for hours with curved knives and eventually freed her. When she was free, the divers say she swam in what seemed like joyous circles. She then came back to each and every diver, one at a time, nudged them, and pushed gently, thanking them.

Some said it was the most incredibly beautiful experience of their lives. The guy who cut the rope out of her mouth says her eye was following him the whole time, and he will never be the same.

May you, and all those you love, be so fortunate...To be surrounded by people who will help you get untangled from the things that are binding you. And, may you always know the joy of giving and receiving gratitude.

Yesterday was such a lovely day because the new Aldi has opened in Knoxville and I went shopping! I was first introduced to Aldi when I visited England in 1998. What a store! The prices are inexpensive and the food is great. I can see that I'll be shopping here weekly.

My mother has an Aldi in the little podunk town she lives in and yet we didn't have one here in Knoxville! It was sad. About 2 months ago I was pulling out of Hobby Lobby and sitting at the light when I saw the Aldi sign. Seriously, I crossed 3 lanes of traffic and probably knocked over a few people and scared a few birds getting over to where it was. It was still under construction but I called my Mom from the parking lot as excited as could be.

Yesterday's visit lived up to my own personal "hype". I left with $46 worth of groceries and a big smile on my face....

I *heart* Aldi...

Felt like I needed a few changes to the old blog. It was getting stale. Bear with me while I learn what I'm doing....haha.

Happy Happy Joy Joy!!

Today the work on my new kitchen floor begins!! I am beyond excited!! It will take the handyman 3 days to complete so I'll have to eat out for the next 3 days because the kitchen will be torn up, stove unplugged, etc. Woe is me *giggle...snort*

Working at home this weekend. Have a list a mile long to work on. Some creating time, too! Temperatures are supposed to be in high 70's this weekend. How much more wonderful could it get?!?!
