Beauty Sample Subscriptions

This year, as a part of my "Year of Self" I decided to buy myself a few beauty sample subscriptions.  I like makeup a lot, but I rarely buy it for myself even though I use it every day.  Not only that, but I'm rarely adventurous when I do buy it.  I thought this might be a bit of fun and give me the opportunity to try some new stuff.  The first one I bought was MyGlam.

The picture above is my 2nd MyGlam bag.  I liked the first one, it was a bit of fun and I posted about it earlier on this blog.  This second one I wasn't too thrilled with.  First off, when I opened the package the smell nearly knocked me over.  It was a horrible chemical smell.  I still haven't figured out if it's coming from the bag itself or the leatherish case that contains a small makeup brush.  Anyway, it was an instant turn off.  I also received a pur-lisse lip repair that I thought was very nice. I still have to use the Kera Color sample.  In the little mesh bag is a sample of pur-lisse essential daily moisturizer and a Murad Eye Lift Protector.    Lastly, there was a coupon code for $25 off of $50 purchase from Dermstore.  Overall, I'm just not feeling MyGlam as being glam.  When I think "glam" I think makeup, not month after month of skin creams.  Not only that, how many skin creams can my skin take before it starts to break out from trying so many on it.  I decided to go ahead and cancel this $10/month subscription.  It just wasn't what I was expecting.

Next is Birchbox.  I quite liked this little box.  Included was a sample of 3 teabags from Teaforte, an all natural, organic tea blend.  The cherry marzipan tea that I tried was really weak and I didn't taste any of the marzipan.  The perfum, Annick Goutal, is delicious!!  it's got a slight citrusy scent to it and I like it a lot.  I also received Ahava moisturizing cream, a Jouer moisturizing foundation, a sample of Orofluido Elixir (for your hair), and a bottle of purple nail polish.  I have not tried any of these items yet.  I did give away the nail polish to a friends daughter.  Can't wait to hear how she likes it.  I liked Birchbox and will keep it if the box continues to be of the same quality.  The $10/month price tag is worth it.

Today I received my Beauty Box 5 subscription.  Included was a Codynes self-tanning towelette (which I have just applied and takes 3 hours to work), Weleda day and night moisturizing cream (I am going to try the night cream tonight), a pur-lisse gentle soy milk cleanser (going to try that as well tonight), Priti NYC soy nail polish remover (will give away), and a lavera eye pencil in a brown shade (perfect for me!)  I subscribed to this for 3 months and I like my first box, although many of the items are the same as previous subscribers received last month.  I think that the first box is great and I'm happy I've subscribed to this one as well.

I am hoping to get on with Cravebox sometime in the near future.  It's not a makeup box but instead is all about things you crave.  The past two months boxes have looked great and I'm hoping my name will come to the top of the list soon.

Well, that's it for tonight.
Namaste.
