A Source of Inspiration...

So, I fell in love with this asymmetrical necklace. It's by Kenneth Cole and it costs $55 at Macy's.  Although it's really pretty, I really didn't think it was worth that price, except that you are paying for a name.  I did find the necklace on ebay but I lost in the bidding.  So I thought I'd find a bead shop and see if I could recreate the necklace for myself.  Not only that but I figured it would let me expend some of my creative energy (don't forget, I'm still waiting to get my craft supplies out of the storage area at the end of the month!)

Today I headed to Argenta Bead Company and started wandering around looking for items that matched or were a close facsimile.  I couldn't find the squarish beads, but I did find round beads!!

Now, I've never made a necklace like this in my life, so the kind ladies at ABC helped me every step of the way.  They showed me how to make all of the pieces that helped tie this necklace together.  I am so pleased with the results!!

Side by side it looks pretty darn nice.  Don't be fooled that the beads on mine are much larger, it's just that the picture is closer up than the original picture.  I quite like my creation and can't wait to wear it to school.

I fear this shop will be getting much of my paycheck in the near future.  I've got many pieces of costume jewelry bookmarked to try to make myself.

Little Rock Farmers Market

Woke up this morning to some light rain.  Little Rock has been in a drought so I think it's wonderful that we've finally gotten rain.  The Little Rock Farmers Market is downtown on Saturday from 7-2 so I decided to head down and see what they had.  I was so excited to see the wide variety of fruits and vegetables available...and the best part....LOW PRICES!!  The cost of the items are so much lower than they were in Knoxville.  Yes, I do believe this will be a Saturday morning ritual.  The other nice part...because it's outside I can take Honor!!

Here's a picture of the loot I got today.  Those blackberries are unbelievably sweet.  The peaches are perfectly ripe!  The watermelon is delicious.  I will be making crash-hot potatoes to go with my chicken for dinner tonight.  Having corn on the cob for lunch!  I am so very pleased!

Scattered...

The drive from Connecticut to Little Rock went very smoothly.  I am always worried about automobile problems and traffic, but we didn't have either on the way.  Honor did great in the back of the Jeep (thank you, Benadryl), and Mike drove the truck.  It was great fun to stop in Knoxville and see some friends, even though it was a brief visit.

I have not stopped since I arrived though!  We had to unload the truck into a storage area and turn it in.  Then Mike took me around the town showing me where things were so that I could find my way while he was gone for 3 weeks.  We were out morning, noon, and night during that time.  Once he left, I began the hunt for a place to live.  I looked, and became dismayed, and then looked some more, and really became dismayed!  I simply could not find anything that fit in with my standards.  I'm not sure what it is about this area but many people do not take care of their properties, especially if they are rentals.  There are a few places that I went into that I wouldn't live in unless it was between that and a refrigerator box.  Nasty, nasty, nasty places abound in this area!

Then, I decided to raise the amount of rent I was willing to pay.  Lo and behold, I found a condo that is almost everything I had hoped for!  The only thing I don't much care for is that it is two floors (well, it's really 3, but I'll explain that in a moment).  A picture of said condo is above.  This place has 1,365 square feet, so it's a nice size.  It is a 3 bedroom 2.5 bath.  Everything in the condo is white (except for the walls)!  White cabinets, white bathrooms, white appliances...be still my heart!!  This condo also has a 2 car garage that is located beneath the main floor (hence the 3 floors).  I am so, so, so happy to have found this place!  It's a bit more than I wanted to pay but I'm okay with it.  I think that Honor and I will be very happy here.  I get the keys on the 30th and will try to move in on the 31st so that I don't have to pay another month of storage fees for my stuff.

I also did some stuff in my office...but I'll write about that on another day.  Monday I go back to work.  Not officially, because my first day to report is August 15th, but because I really want to get back to the office and start getting things ready for the new semester.  It's the first time I'll be teaching Historical Geology and I want to be sure I do a good job.

Until next time...
